Propoganda maps can be a powerful tool in persuading others to your views.

DLG

A Digital Line Graph (DLG) is digital vector data representing cartographic information.

DLG shown in red and blue lines.

DEM

A digital elevation model (DEM) is a digital representation of ground surface topography or terrain. It is also widely known as a digital terrain model (DTM). A DEM can be represented as a raster (a grid of squares) or as a triangular irregular network. DEMs are commonly built using remote sensing techniques, however, they may also be built from land surveying. DEMs are used often in geographic information systems, and are the most common basis for digitally-produced relief maps.

DRG

A digital raster graphic (DRG) is a digital image resulting from scanning a paper USGS topographic map for use on a computer. DRGs created by USGS are typically scanned at 250 dpi and saved as a TIFF. The raster image usually includes the original border information, referred to as the "map collar". The map file is UTM projected and georeferenced to the surface of the earth. DRG's are regularly used in GIS applications.

In a classed choropleth map, areal units are combined into a smaller number of groups and portrayed in intervals. There are 6 classification levels in this classed choropleth map.

DOQQ

A DOQQ is a one meter pixel resolution that covers areas measuring 3.75-minutes longitude and latitude at a 1:12,000 scale. Currently, 3.75-minute DOQQs are available for most of the United States, and the remaining locations should have been completed by 2004.

Isopleths

Isopleths , or contour line, is a feature of meteorological charts, connecting points which have an equal value of some variable at a given time and spatial area. The particular variables shown on a given chart may include values such as pressure, temperature, wind speed, etc. They are used to assist in visualizing the general features of a meteorological "field".

Isopach

Isopach: Map of the areal extent and thickness variation of a stratigraphic unit; used in geological exploration for oil and for underground structural analysis.

Isohyets

A line on a map that joins points of equal elevation.

Unstandardized choropleth maps are without a specific order for the date displayed.

Lorenz curve

Lorenz curve:A graph for showing the concentration of ownership of economic quantities such as wealth and income; it is formed by plotting the cumulative distribution of the amount of the variable concerned against the cumulative frequency distribution of the individuals possessing the amount.

Population profile

A graph of the population by race.

Triangular plot

A ternary plot, ternary graph, triangle plot, simplex plot, or de Finetti diagram is a barycentric plot on three variables which sum to a constant. It graphically depicts the ratios of the three variables as positions in an equilateral triangle. It is used in petrology, mineralogy, metallurgy, and other physical sciences to show the compositions of systems composed of three species. In population genetics, it is often called a de Finetti diagram.

A parallel coordinate graph is used to plot large multivariate datasets. Each variable in the data plot is represented as its own Y Axis on the graph. A maximum point for each Y axis is selected, and they are scaled relatively to each other so that each variable takes up the same area in the graph space.

Histogram

Histogram: A bar graph of a frequency distribution in which the widths of the bars are proportional to the classes into which the variable has been divided and the heights of the bars are proportional to the class frequencies.

Box plot

Box plot: s a convenient way of graphically depicting groups of numerical data through their five-number summaries (the smallest observation, lower quartile (Q1), median (Q2), upper quartile (Q3), and largest observation). A boxplot may also indicate which observations, if any, might be considered outliers. The boxplot was invented in 1977 by the American statistician John Tukey.

Correlation matrix: The link or relationship existing between two or more variables. Where there is a positive correlation between two variables, an increase or decrease in one is matched by a similar change in the other.

Bivariate choropleth maps: maps two variables on a single map by combining two different sets of graphic symbols.

Range graded proportional circle map

Range graded proportional circle map: As the name implies, symbols (most often circles) are drawn proportional in size to the size of the variable (e.g. employment change) being represented. The circles represent the magnitude of an earthquake that hit Kythira Island.

Stem and leaf plot

A stemplot (or stem-and-leaf plot), in statistics, is a device for presenting quantitative data in a graphical format, similar to a histogram, to assist in visualizing the shape of a distribution. They evolved from Arthur Bowley's work in the early 1900s, and are useful tools in exploratory data analysis.http://math.arizona.edu/~cossey/statistics

Star plot

The star plot or Irregular polygon, or polar chart is a graphical method of displaying multivariate data. Each star represents a single observation. Starplots allow you to compare multiple variables for each observation. Starplots allows for easy visualization of many variables. This illustrates the use of light hydrocarbon ratios to assess oil similarities or differences, which is especially important when dealing with condensates (after Halpern, 1995).

Windrose

Windrose: A wind rose is a graphic tool used by meteorologists to give a succinct view of how wind speed and direction are typically distributed at a particular location. This is a plot or Fresno, ca.

Climograph

Climograph: A graph of monthly average temperature plotted against average humidity. The monthly points are joined by a line. The shape and location of line thus drawn indicates the nature of climate in terms of heat and humidity.

Scatterplot

Scatterplot is a type of display using Cartesian coordinates to display values for two variables for a set of data. The above shows the amount and legnht of each eruptions at Old Faithful.

Bilateral graph

Bilateral graph depicts increases on one side of a zero line and a decreases on the other side.

Continuously variable proportional circle map

Continuously variable proportional circle map utilizes circles to evenly show their data. This map shows the Vietnamese population in the Southwest Untied States.

Isotachs: A line along which the speed of the wind is constant. Isotachs are customarily represented on surfaces of constant elevation or atmospheric pressure, or in vertical cross sections.

Isobars: A line on a weather map connecting points of equal atmospheric pressure. Also called isopiestic. The isobars (black lines) on this weather map of Europe and the Mediterranean show the barometric pressure in hectopascals (hPa), which used to be called millibars.

Doppler radar: A radar system used to measure the relative velocity of the system and the radar target. The operation of these systems is based on the fact that the Doppler frequency shift in the target echo is proportional to the radial component of target velocity. This type of imaging is seen quite often in Florida during hurricane season. The above image is of Hurricane Frances as it passed through South Florida.

LIDAR

LIDAR: (Laser Radar) Lidar systems employ intense pulses of light, typically generated by lasers, and large telescopes and sensitive optical detectors to receive the reflected pulses. A method of detecting distant objects and determining their position, velocity, or other characteristics by analysis of pulsed laser light reflected from their surfaces. A lidar image of Manhattan, pre 09/11.

Black and white aerial photo

An aerial B/W photo after the 09/11 attacks on the trade center.

Infrared aerial photo can be used to document changes to the environment, the health of forests, wetlands, bays and oceans, but it can also be used to document and monitor such items as damage to roofs, the tracking of dairy farm out flows, pinpointing the source of, and monitoring, insect or disease infested vineyards, or sites contaminated by toxic chemicals, and many more applications. This photo shows ground zero days after the drastic attack.

Cartographic animation uses animation techniques in map making. Cartography is reaching into new areas of research called cartographic visualization.

Statistical maps: A special type of map in which the variation in quantity of a factor such as rainfall, population, or crops in a geographic area is indicated; a dot map is one type. This maps shows the metropolitan areas n the State of Texas as of 2004.

Cartograms: Broadly defined as a map using statistical symbols, a more specialist usage defines a cartogram as a type of map transformation based on a scale other than a true scale. For example, a voting map of Britain may show the size of counties in relation to the numbers of voters in each electoral unit, or an economic cartogram of the world may show countries drawn in proportion to their per capita GNP. This map shows the countries that mostly contribute to global warming.

Flow maps in cartography are a mix of maps and flow charts, that show the movement of objects from one location to another, such as the number of people in a migration, the amount of goods being traded, or the number of packets in a network.[1] One of the most common examples are the maps on airplanes showing where the airline travels to and from. This map shows the spread of a Christianity.

Isoline maps: A line on a map, chart, or graph connecting points of equal value. Also called isogram. Map with continuous lines joining points of the same value. Examples would be equal altitude (contour lines), temperature (isotherms), barometric pressure (isobars), wind speed (isotachs), wind direction (isogon), wind shear (isoshear), etc. Isoline mapping is used to interpret the information on some thematic maps.

Proportional circle maps

Dot distribution maps: A form of thematic mapping by using dots to show the presence of a feature or occurrence and display a spatial pattern. This map uses dots to depict the human population in the U.S.

Proprganda maps used to cause propoganda, just as it is named for. this map is of Albania. "Albanians were Brainwashed in the communist era that they were Illyrians in a way that included Thracians,Greeks(Macedons,Epirotes & others) into one thing, Albanians. This happened to justify territorial claims against neigbouring states and it continues to this day creating problems in the Balkans."

Hypsometric map: A map depicting the configuration of the earth’s surface, called the “relief,” by means of contours, form lines, hachures, shading, tinting, or relief models. This is a map of France. You can see the shading depicting the mountains at the bottom of the map.

The Public Land Survey System (PLSS) is a method used in the United States to survey and identify land parcels, particularly for titles and deeds of rural, wild or undeveloped land.
