LIDAR: (Laser Radar) Lidar systems employ intense pulses of light, typically generated by lasers, and large telescopes and sensitive optical detectors to receive the reflected pulses. A method of detecting distant objects and determining their position, velocity, or other characteristics by analysis of pulsed laser light reflected from their surfaces. A lidar image of Manhattan, pre 09/11.
